Rockin Robin Aids Brewer Effort Over Tigers
Game 1: Milwaukee 5 Detroit 3
WP: Larry Sorenson
LP: Milt Wilcox
MVP: Charlie Moore
Rarely can a team commit 4 errors and come away with a win. But that is exactly what the Milwaukee Brewers managed to do in a 5-3 victory over Detroit. The Tigers Jason Thompson hit a 3 run homer, his 10th of the season, to give Detroit a 3-1 lead in the top of the 6th inning. However, Milwaukee responded with a 4 run barrage of their own in the bottom half of the inning to steal back the lead. Led by Charlie Moore's 2 for 3 3 RBI performance, the Brew Crew picked up their 31st win of the season earning Moore game MVP honors. Alan Tramell of the Tigers improves his game hit streak to 8 straight. Larry Sorenson improves to 6-6 (2.83 ERA) as he earns the win.
Game 2: Milwaukee 4 Detroit 1
WP: Bob McClure
LP: Jim Slaton
MVP: Andy Replogle
Robin Yount, hitting a meager .175 in May, has upped his game in June batting a lofty .357 for the month. And today was no different as the 22 year old shortstop put in a 3 for 4 4 RBI effort in a 4-1 victory over the Tigers. Detroit made it difficult, however, as ex-Brewer Jim Slaton had the Crew knotted in a 1-1 tie going into the bottom half of the ninth inning. But Milwaukee came out swinging in the final frame with a lead off double by Gorman Thomas, and finishing with a 322 foot home run by Yount (2nd) to end the game. Andy Replogle had a fine pitching performance throwing 8.1 innings allowing 7 hits and allowing 1 earned run. The Brewers improve to 32-20 while Detroit drops to 24-28.
