Game 1,
The Lumber Company got out to a five run lead however, the Reds came back strong to make it game as they scored four runs later in the game. In the end it was not enough as Kent Tekulve came in relief to hold off the hot red bats. Don Robinson earned the victory for the Pirates to improve to 3-0 while Frank Pastore fell to 0-1.....Pirates 5....Reds 4.
Game 2,
Bert Blyleven (2-3) and Fred Norman (2-1) fought it out in the finale of the short two game set in Cincy. Both veteran hurlers went the distance for their respective ball clubs. However, The Big Red Machine proved to be on the better end of the game when they plated a tally in the third inning when Ken Griffey smashed a homerun to right field to put Cincinnati in front 1-0. The Reds never relinquished the lead and held on for the 1-0 victory. Reds 1...Pirates 0.
