 GAME 1

Dodger Stadium
Dodgers 7, Pirates 1

Headline:  "Don't Mess with Andy"
The Bucs scored first in the top of the 3rd when Manny Sanguillen singled home Frank Taveras.  The Dodgers responded by unleashing a 5 run barrage in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.  Ron Cey's 2 run single gave LA a 2-1 lead that quickly became a 5-1 lead after the "Toy Cannon" Jimmy Wynn blasted a 3 run homer.  With Andy Messersmith in lock down mode (CG/3H/1ER) the Dodgers drew first blood in this best of 5 series.
Dodgers lead series 1-0

GAME 2
Dodger Stadium
Pirates 2, Dodgers 1

Headline:  "The Candyman Can"
The good news for the Dodgers was that they got a complete game 2 run effort from Burt Hooton.  The bad news for them was that John Candelaria (7IP/1ER/1H) was better.  Candy man had a no-no going until the 7th when Lee Lacy broke it up with a clean single.  A sac fly by Henry Cruz tied the game at 1-1.  In the top of the 9th Richie Zisk doubled home Willie Stargell with 2 outs to put the Bucs up 2-1.  Tekulve, Giusti and Demery combined to save the 9th and tie the series.
Series tied 1-1

GAME 3
Three Rivers Stadium
Dodgers 3, Pirates 1

Headline:  "Charlie Horse"
Bruce Kison was victimized by poor defense (3 unearned runs), while his opposite number Doug Rau was aided by 3 innings of perfect relief from Charlie Hough.  LA drew first blood on a 2 out 2 run single by Jim Wynn in the top of the first, which was aided by an error by Rennie Stennett at second base.  LA would add another run in the 4th thanks to an error by shortstop Frank Taveras.  To add insult to injury pitcher Doug Rau singled in the run.  Charlie Hough was summoned from the pen as Rau ran out of gas after 6 innings.  Hough's knuckler danced it's way to 3 innings of near perfect work.
Dodgers lead series 2-1

GAME 4
Three Rivers Stadium
Dodgers 7, Pirates 1

Headline:  "Lopes for the Wynn"
LA scored 4 runs over the first 3 innings to chase lefty starter Jim Rooker from the hill.  With their backs up against the wall in this elimination game the Bucs needed Rooker to come up big, which lasted just 2 innings of mediocrity.  Dodger lead off man Davey Lopes(3-5) was on base early and often.  Lopes also knocked in 3 runs.  Centerfielder Jim Wynn also harassed Buc hurlers by walking 3 times and singling once.  Lopes who is known for his legs and his leather also hit a homer to pace LA to the series victory to snag the NL Pennant.
Dodgers win series 3-1
