CHICAGO -- D-Day veterans on hand to throw out the first pitch and watch the White Sox blow out the Red Sox 11-2. Rick Reichardt had 3 hits and 2 RBI to lead the offense. Carlos May doubled twice and drove in 3. Wilbur Wood (7-7) evened his record with 8 strong innings of work. Sonny Siebert (3-5) was lit up in this one. In real life, he tossed a shutout.
June 7, 1972
CHICAGO -- Doug Griffin banged out 3 hits and 2 RBI, including the game-winner bringing home Reggie Smith in T9 to give the Carmines a 6-5 victory and split in the 2-game series. Carlton Fisk (6) also contributed a homer, a triple, 3 hits, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored in a 16-hit BoSox attack. Danny Cater also contributed 3 hits. Ken Tatum (1-1) was the winning pitcher in relief with former ChiSox hurler Gary Peters (4) pitching a 1-2-3 9th for the save. May (3) enjoyed a solid 3-2-3-3 day at the plate for Chicago.
