ST. LOUIS -- Matty Alou banged out 3 hits and knocked in 2, including the GWRBI in the 8th when his double brought in PR Luis Melendez. That made it 4-2. In the 9th, Frank Robinson (10) led-off with a solo shot off Moe Drabowsky (3) to make the final score 4-3. Drabowsky retired the next 3 to save the game for Reggie Cleveland (6-6).

ST. LOUIS -- Donn Clendenon (3) smashed a 2-run bomb to highlight a 3-run 3rd inning for the Cardinals. He was ejected for arguing a strike out call later, and his replacement, Alou, smacked a 2-run single in the B8 to provide insurance in a 5-2 Redbirds winner. Scipio Spinks (5-4) pitched 7.1 innings for the W with Diego Segui (1) getting the save. Tommy John (2-3) took the L.
