KC Sweeps ChiSox as Hedlund fires blanks . . . Again

CHICAGO -- Fred Patek and the rest of the Royals had both their hitting AND running shoes laced and ready to go. Patek went 5-5 with 3 SB and 3 runs scored to lead KC to a 7-4 win. All told, the Royals clubbed 20 hits with Amos Otis and Gail Hopkins contributing 4 and 3 hits, respectively. Otis (4) drove in 3 runs with a double and HR, and added another SB. Dick Drago (3-6) went the distance on the hill.

CHICAGO -- For the 2nd time in 7 days Mike Hedlund (5-4) has fired a complete-game shut out against the White Sox. On May May 19, Hedlund blanked the Chisox on just 3 hits. Tonight, he turned the trick, allowing just 2 base knocks. KC sweeps the short series with a 2-0 win. Paul Schaal and Bob Oliver had the RBI for the visitors.
