ST. LOUIS -- Joe Torre put up a 5-4-4-3 boxscore line to lead St. Louis on a 21-hit attack and an 11-4 victory. Alou, Ted Simmons and Jose Cruz all chipped in 3 hits. Reggie Cleveland (14-6) worked 7 for the win.

ST. LOUIS -- "Gibby" (7-8) dominated through the full 9, scattering 9 hits, fanning 8 and yielding just 1 run in a 3-1 Redbirds victory. Simmons, Lou Brock and Gibson himself collected two hits apiece to the home club.
