Tigers Sweep ChiSox with three 1-run games

Game 1: Detroit won 6-5, but not without some dramatics at the end. Chicago rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9^th and had the tying run at 2^nd before Jack Billingham (2-1) recorded the 27^th out on a Jorge Orta fly to LF. DH Rusty Staub led the offense with 2 hits and a pair of RBI.

GAME 2: Jason Thompson swatted a pair of homers including a solo shot in the 9^th to lift the Tigers to a 4-3 win. Thompson had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Milt Wilcox (1-0) went the distance on the hill.

GAME 3: Jack Kemp’s 3-run shot and Lance Parrish’s 2-run blast put up a 5 spot in the 1^st before the fans were in their seats. Jack Morris (2-0) and John Hiller (2) took it the rest of the way for a 5-4 Tigers win and the sweep. Hiller stranded the tying run on 3^rd base in the 9^th when he fanned Bob Molinaro and got Orta to fly out.
