Koosman vs Grimsley
Mets 3, Expos 0
8 shutout innings for 1st win of season |
Chalk one up for New York's veteran lefthander Jerry Koosman, who pitched 8 shutout innings vs the young Expos, then handed the ball over to Skip Lockwood who closed it out with some anxious moments in the 9th. New York carried a 1-0 lead into the 7th when "the Dude", John Stearns hit a 2 run shot to make it 3-0. Montreal had plenty of opportunities to score in this game, but Koosman came up big every time he had to. Kooz fanned 7 and gave up 5 hits to notch his first win of the season. Lockwood, who got out of a self created jam in the 9th, recorded his 3rd save. New York takes this weekend series to even their record at 5-5. Montreal's is also sitting at .500 (4-4).
