Otto Velez took
care of the offense in game one as the Blue Jays handed the White Sox their
first loss in 1978, 3-2. Velez
swatted a 2-run homer in the 2nd, then broke a 2-2 tie in the 4th
with a titanic 452-foot shot to center. Jesse
Jefferson went the distance on the mound.
Bobby Bonds keyed
a 5-run 3rd inning for Chicago
with a 2-run double. The Sox held on for a 6-5 win in the 2nd and
final game of this series. Steve Stone
(2-0) tossed 8 innings for the W. Jim
Willoughby hurled a perfect 9th for the save.
