Detroit Rolls to 2-Game Sweep of Halos

Game 1: Cal (Brett) vs Det (Wilcox)
Detroit starter Milt Wilcox went the distance to pick up his second win. Tigers scored 2 in top of eighth to break a 3-3 tie. Angels sent ace reliever Dave LaRoche to the hill, but Tigers Lane Parrish doubled home 2 runners with 2 outs to give Wilcox all the support he needed as Detroit won 5-3. Rusty Staub and Parrish both had 3 hits for the Tigers.

Game 2: Cal (Tanana) vs Det (Slaton)
The Tigers scored in 3 of first 4 innings off Angels starter Tanana to take 4-0 lead. Lance Parrish powered the Tigers attack with his 4th homer of season. Meanwhile Tigers starter Jim Slaton, who has struggled mightily this young season, held the Angels scoreless through 8. In the bottom of the 9th, the Angels bats came alive as they scored 3 and had runners on first and third with 2 out. Slaton induced a grounder from Dave Chalk and held on for the CG victory, lowering (!) his season ERA to 6.34.
