Reds Snap Losing Streak Vs. Astros

Cincinnati snapped a seven-game losing streak by taking two straight from the struggling 'Stros.

Game 1: Hou 3, Cin 1
W: Sambito (3-0)
L: Hume (1-1)

Bob Watson ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to snap a 1-1 tie and give reliever Joe Sambito his third win of the young season. Cesar Cedeno continues to ignite the offense for Houston, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. He'll go six-for-12 in the series and make some defensive gems in CF.

Game 2: Cin 12, Hou 4
W: Capilla (1-0)
L: Lemongello (0-2)

The Reds' George Foster slams three homers
What a day for fence-busting George Foster, who pounded three home runs and drove in six, two of them off the fiery Mark Lemongello, known for slapping the side of his head after a bad pitch. The Big Red Machine finally breaks its early-season losing streak.

Game 3: Cin 4, Hou 1
W:  Seaver (1-1)
L: Sambito (3-1)
S: Bair (1)

Lots of missed bats in this one, as Tom Seaver strikes out 10 and Houston's J.R. Richard fans 11 (in 6 innings). The Reds break through off Joe Sambito with three in the top of the eighth, fueled by a two-run single by Joe Morgan with the bases juiced. Ken Griffey goes 5-for-5. Houston drops to 5-5, while Cincinnati is now 3-7.
